Moving Month: Mover Highlight E.E. Ward Moving & Storage Co.
From humble beginnings, and just two horses and a wagon, E.E. Ward has flourished into one of the most trusted and respected companies in the moving and storage industry. Founded in 1881, E.E. Ward continues to be recognized as the oldest continually owned and operated Black-owned business in the United States. Current owners, Brian and Dominique Brooks, maintain a strong commitment to continuing the legacy of E.E. Ward, combining service with dignity and strong moral character.
Over its 140 years in the industry, E.E. Ward has never wavered from the principals on which it was initially founded: excellent service and giving back to the community. E.E. Ward began as a stop on the Underground Railroad and that historical past has shaped the culture and the company to this day, continuing to inspire innovation and the future of the industry.
When asked how the history of the company shapes its current business practices and prospects for the future, E. E. Ward President and Co-owner Brian Brooks said, “E.E. Ward was founded on principles of quality service and strong moral character. These principles provide a clear focus of what is most important to our team – first, providing the highest quality service for our customers, second, serving our community, and third, taking care of our company. With these priorities aligned, we’ve made many strong partnerships and have been able to expand from our first location in Columbus OH to Charlotte and Raleigh NC.”
E.E. Ward’s strong commitment to quality customer service is evident in the many accolades won over the years, including being named a 2020 BBB International Torch Award for Ethics Finalist. Most recently, E. E Ward was named North American Van Lines’ 2021 Agent of the Year. The American Trucking Associations’ Moving & Storage Conference supports this incredible and historic company and its commitment to furthering our essential industry.
